The coolest water feature ever – the “water wall” at Minter Gardens.

Clematis, holly, grass, rock – Minter Gardens.

B.C.’s provincial flower, Pacific Dogwood, Cornus nuttallii.

Pacific Dogwood in fir forest, near Alexandra Bridge, Fraser Canyon. May 29, 2013.

These dogwood flowers are big, as you can see by my hand holding the branch.
Pictures from our recent excursion to the lower mainland. We took time out on our final day to botanize and tourist our way home. Didn’t take too many pictures, but these are a sampling of what we saw in our travels.
Beautiful British Columbia – the clichéd phrase is so very true!

Thank you! Happy to share. 🙂
Beautiful! It has been years since I visited Bridal Falls and I’m not sure I’ve ever been to Minter Gardens (though it is on my “To Visit” list).
We’ve driven past both many times through the years; this is the very first time we’ve stopped. Both were lovely. It was a very quiet morning in the rain; peaceful atmosphere at both which was wonderful. Chatting with the staff at Minter, it seems like this is not always the case, and as we were pulling out a bus tour was pulling in. It’s well worth a visit; the water features were particularly well done, and the landscaping was impeccable. Very well cared for; we were impressed. We spent two hours there and that was about right to cover most of it. We’ll probably go again some day, though it’s not anywhere in the same league as Van Dusen or UBC for actual selection of plants, or the hyper-touristy Butchart for sheer scale of plantings. It was very pleasant, and we’re glad we finally stopped to take a look. (My daughter was watching the whole time for Mr Minter himself; she loves to listen to him on CBC and we have a little running joke, “What would BRIAN do?” when we face a garden dilemma; but he was not in evidence. 😉 )
Are those azaleas, the second picture? Azaleas are my most favorite flower in the world.
I do believe they are. Not being in the area of BC where we can grow these (most of the province!) and never having had personal experience with them, I get a little bit mixed up between rhododendrons and azaleas, but I’m pretty sure these are azaleas. Nice, aren’t they? 🙂
Thank you for sharing, and taking me to very beautiful B.C. For a moment.
You’re very welcome, Diana. Glad you enjoyed these glimpses of our part of the world. 🙂
Thank you for these pictures. I have just returned from my honeymoon in beautiful British Columbia, and it certainly lived up to the name! Unfortunately our camera did not live up to the beauty and our attempts to take close up pictures of all the beautiful flowers were a bit rubbish. Yours are better!
We didn’t go to Bridal Veils falls but various others – Shannon and Nairn, I think. The landscape is completely different to where I live in the UK – The Peak District – is really not very mountainous when compared to BC!
Oh! We’ve been to Shannon Falls, too. Really easy to get to, nice little park, *gorgeous* waterfall!
And yes, we do do mountains rather well here in B.C. 🙂 And if you want to see *REAL* mountains, you must travel the Parkway through the Rockies between Banff and Jasper; makes the Coast Mountains look like little hills!
I am so glad you made it to B.C., and I hope you had a lovely honeymoon. Congratulations to you and your spouse!
So lovely. This pictures make me feel calm, and nostalgic for the one trip I ever took to Vancouver, and only stayed 3 days! Beautiful is right.
